Joni Parsley Daydream Believer

Please … understand. I feel like that would be a suitable title for my life story because it’s two words I hear or say so often. In my story, I would describe all the years I’ve been asked to understand when nothing made sense. I would tell the dramatic tale of how and when I had no choice but try to go beyond my human capabilities, fight on, live on, hold on, dream on, lean on, be on, etc. Even in Latin with etcetera, I’ve been told to go on-ugh! However, it’s so compelling, I think perhaps, in my mind, it’s now a Broadway play.

At times, after I get home, I turn on the TV just for background noise. The TV is on but I don’t actually tune in, so to speak. However, while someone was promoting a movie one time, they showed a clip where a Priest was teaching and unexpectedly, he said one of the most profound things I have ever heard. Here I was, just coming home and going about my usual routine while having no idea that my entire outlook and mindset about something that characterized my Savior would change me so dramatically. I was listening but then I heard…two entirely different things.

My daydreams began as a carefree child and have never ended even though I’m no longer a child or carefree! Why do we want to grow up so fast? Perhaps, this is why I loved the story of Peter Pan because its narrative guides us through the adventure of those who never want to grow up and those who know you have to. However, it doesn’t have to be sad if you never lose your child-like wonder; the qualities of innocence, trust, delight in simplicity and dreaming you’re anything and anyone you wish to be. Wishes come true and so do dreams as one of my favorite songs defines, “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.”

Don't you just love when you don't take your own advice and are too ashamed to admit it after urging others to do something? Well, in a cyber world where we shame everyone from moms to poor dogs, I'm just going to be honest so shame me all you want! Do I need to wear a sign or hang one around my neck? If so, I'm ok with it! ...

Let's see, we left off with the question and the promise to answer. As I write, I promise you that my supermom cape was worn, torn, and tossed in the trash long ago. I realized that I could never be this character that was created in my mind which I claim was under the influence of the media and Martha Stewart! My perfect mom character lived in my daydreams where she would amaze my kids and all others!
